what is a gentleman
what is a gentleman?
Gentleman: a word older than the internet, in the public domain, generating marketing millions worldwide in services, retail, social media and publishing, and no one owns it.
Even more interesting, believe it or not the Gentleman has never truly been defined, just a loose set of principles adopted as English society developed. In the 18th century it was a result of noble birth, and in the 19th century readapted as the symbol of a professional man. By the early 20th century, as industrialization kicked in, everyone was granted the title Gentleman, rendering it mostly obsolete.
Today the Gentleman has become an abstract concept which through the ages has been adapted to fit it times and is now littered with misconceptions and no clear interpretation, as seen online through the hundreds of compiled 'Rules of a Gentleman' cobbled together by anonymous writers who are restating opinion, with no regards to context, religions, culture, generations or nations.
We believe these nuances can and will ultimately make the difference and we've set about creating a league of modern gentlemen to one day create a positive impact on society. The Fraternity & Co plans to define what a modern gentleman is, through the use of Technology and human interactions.
The Fraternity & Co will use digital platforms to bring Gentlemen of the world together to define what it means to be a modern gentleman through a reputation algorithm.
